Settle into Europe's "Greenest Capital." Walk across the Triple Bridge and take the funicular up to Ljubljana Castle for a sunset view of the Julian Alps.
Day 2Zagreb City Exploration
Take a walking tour of the Upper Town (Gornji Grad). Visit St. Mark’s Church, the Stone Gate, and the Museum of Broken Relationships. Ride the world's shortest funicular.
Day 3Zagreb Highlights
Visit the Dolac Open-Air Market in the morning. Afternoon visit to the Mirogoj Cemetery, known as one of the most beautiful in Europe, or a hike on Mount Medvednica.
Day 4Zagreb to Ljubljana
Morning drive or train to Ljubljana (approx. 2 hours). Spend the afternoon exploring the "Green Capital," walking across the Triple Bridge and visiting Ljubljana Castle for views.
Day 5The Alpine Lakes
Day trip to the Julian Alps. Start at Lake Bled to visit the island church via a pletna boat. Continue to the wilder Lake Bohinj for a cable car ride up Mt. Vogel and a hike to the Savica Waterfall.
Day 6Ljubljana to Rovinj
Head south. Stop at the massive Postojna Cave for a train ride underground and visit the dramatic Predjama Castle built into a cliff. Continue to the seaside town of Rovinj.
Day 7Istria
Full-day tour of the Istrian peninsula. Visit the Roman Arena in Pula, the hilltop "artist village" of Grožnjan, and the truffle-famous town of Motovun.
Day 8Leisure in Rovinj
A day of leisure. Wander the cobblestone streets of Old Town Rovinj, visit the Church of St. Euphemia, or take a boat trip to the Lim Fjord.
Day 9Rovinj to Split
A long travel day heading down the coast or via the highway toward Split. Consider a stop in the coastal town of Zadar to hear the Sea Organ.
Day 10Plitvice Lakes
From Split, take a day tour to Plitvice Lakes National Park (approx. 2.5 hours each way). Explore the 16 interconnected lakes and world-famous waterfalls.
Day 11Old Town Split
Morning walking tour of Diocletian’s Palace (a UNESCO site). Afternoon at leisure; relax at Bačvice Beach or hike up Marjan Hill for a sunset view over the harbor.
Day 12Sarajevo
Drive toward Bosnia. Stop in Imotski to see the stunning Blue and Red Lakes, massive karst sinkholes. Cross the border and arrive in Sarajevo by evening.
Day 13Sarajevo Grand Tour
Explore the "Jerusalem of Europe." Visit Baščaršija (the old Ottoman bazaar), the Latin Bridge (site of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand), and the Sarajevo Tunnel of Hope.
Day 14Kotor
Travel south. Spend the morning in Mostar to see the iconic Stari Most (Old Bridge). Continue through the scenic mountains into Montenegro, arriving in the Bay of Kotor.
Day 15Boka Bay
Take a boat tour of the bay. Highlights include the Our Lady of the Rocks island church, the historic town of Perast, and swimming in the Blue Cave.
Day 16Leisure in Kotor
Head south. Stop at the massive Postojna Cave for a train ride underground and visit the dramatic Predjama Castle built into a cliff. Continue to the seaside town of Rovinj.
Day 17Dubrovnik
Short drive to the Croatian border (approx. 2 hours). Check in and enjoy an evening walk on the Stradun, Dubrovnik's main limestone-paved street.
Day 18Old Town Dubrovnik
A full day exploring the south. Start with a walking tour of Dubrovnik's Old Town walls. Then, drive to the charming town of Cavtat and the Konavle Valley for a traditional lunch and olive oil tasting.
Day 19Leisure in Dubrovnik
A final day of leisure. Take the cable car to Mount Srđ, visit Lokrum Island, or find a "hole-in-the-wall" bar for a final drink overlooking the sea.
Day 20Farewell
Today, bid farewell to the Balkans before your onward journey.
